joseph stalinJoseph Stalin was born on 18 December 1879 in Gori, Georgia with the name Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili. His mother was religious and his father was a cobbler. Stalin was brought up in a poor family. His father was also an alcoholic and violent with Stalin and his mother. When Stalin was older, he joined the church to become a priest, there he read Karl Marx’s book. Stalin never became a priest, instead he became a revolutionarist against the Russian empire. After 15 years of being and activist he was sent to exile in Siberia. After the revolution, Stalin climbed his way up the political ladder. In 1922 he became the general secretary of the Communist Party. After Lenin (founder of the Soviet Union) died Stalin stationed himself and the leader of the Soviet Union and destroyed all his rivals. He established a five year plan, which turned the soviet union from an agricultural to an industrial state. To enforce his rule, Stalin used fear and terror. He created the Red Army, exiled people, created labor camps, and conducted mass murders and executions. In June 1941, Stalin was not reader for the Nazi attack. However, he did everything he could to fight the Nazis back, and he was victorious. After World War 2, Stalin became more and more paranoid and died of a stroke on March 5, 1953.(BBC History, 2015)
