Japan's growing need for raw materials helped them create a market for manufactured goods. Japan supposedly was controlling all colonized territory, however the Army General Staff in Tokyo had taken control of the Japanese military authorities. Japan used up all the resources present in the occupied territories to build its war machine. Japan’s need for success grew so bitter to the point of Vietnamese starvation due to the taking of Vietnamese rice by Japanese soldiers. The Japanese, like the Germans, created labor forces that were made up of prisoners of war and innocent civilians. Several countries criticized Japan’s actions; while others such as Indonesian patriots supported them however sabotaged them behind their backs.
